Absorption

  • Level: Middle School
  • Topic: Gastrointestinal Physiology and Respiratory Physiology

Description: This activity provides middle school-level students with opportunities to explore the concept of absorption through the use of a variety of materials. While working in cooperative groups, students will learn about absorption by using a variety of discovery methods and experimenting with materials of varying absorbency. Students will also be able to measure volume, learn about parts of the body that absorb, learn about hypoxia and how it affects pilots, and be able to discuss how Native Americans used absorption. They will gain the skills necessary to use the scientific method of research and record their findings in science journals.
