Frontiers in Physiology Framework

Framework

Two guiding principles provide a conceptual framework for designing APS education programs and developing resources.

“Six Star Science” addresses six major tenets of science teaching, including student-centered instruction, valuing diversity, integrating technology, focusing on authentic assessments, utilizing current content, and reflecting on teaching and learning.

Frontiers promotes the effective implementation of state and national standards for K-12 content and pedagogy -- especially inquiry-based teaching, equity strategies, and technology use -- by middle and high school science teachers. The program’s relationship to standards highlights its relevance and significance during this critical time of accountability.

The Frontiers in Physiology programs are developed and sponsored by the American Physiological Society with additional funding from the National Center for Research Resources (Science Education Partnership Award #RR15251) at the National Institutes of Health.
